The Zine Machine!

The ZINE MACHINE Project (formally 780distro) began in 2014 as a snack vending machine that has been re-purposed to distribute small zines. In October 2017, the project changed hands and has evolved beyond the distribution of locally made publications to offering workshops, consultation, and support to community groups and educators who are interested in bringing zines into the classroom. The Zine Machine currently distributes publications from all over the world. Follow the Zine Machine on Instagram (@zinemachine780) and Twitter (@zinemachine780), and head on over to to find out how to submit your own zine!

Stop by the Royal Bison from December 7 to 9 to chat with the cool folks at the Zine Machine and also to get your own cool zine!

Ochre Lea Brings Her Passion for Printmaking To Bison!

Cate Kuzik, head honcho of Ochre Lea, is bringing her printmaking goods to Bison now for the second time! She first joined us last Christmas and she was a perfect fit. Cate has this to say about her work: "Ochre Lea (pronounced “oh-kerr-lee”), is a letterpress & leather goods company based in Edmonton. Using traditional printmaking techniques & fuelled by bright colours and graphics with mildly inappropriate phrases that make folks smile, Ochre Lea’s products are made in small batches, hand-fed one colour at a time, one piece at a time, often with crazy old machines." Keep up with Kate's process on both instagram//twitter (@ochrelea) and read on down below to see what makes Kate tick!

RB: What draws you to making/designing things?
OL: Printmaking is very tactile and hands on.  I enjoy the relaxing and almost melodic feel of the running equipment, it really seems to sooth the soul.

RB: What’s new for your line/business this spring?
OL: I always seem to have too many things planned but am working on expanding my line of leather goods as well as some new designs for greeting cards.

RB: What’s in your designer/maker/creative plans for 2018 (new materials? New ideas? New
Right now I'm focusing combining my passion for printmaking and textiles.

RB: Tell us about a few of your designer/maker/creative crushes
OL: Lately, I have been taken with carving a lot of geometrics. The process of taking something that is perfect and seeing how it changes as I carve it is slowly becoming an obsession. <<< Head on over to Cate's full portfolio site to see the full scope of her work!
