Add Some Beautiful Monsters To Your Life With Paper Monsters

Joel Kadziolka, of Papercut Monsters, started making and selling at Royal Bison in 2011. First adopted by young professionals as a cool piece of office decor, Papercut Monsters have found their way across the globe for a wide range of fans. The machine-washable wonders are easily held by little hands and have no small pieces, making them great for even the youngest of children. Whether you buy one as a best friend for someone special or keep it for yourself to proudly display your inner creative beast, Papercut Monsters don't mind—they get along with everyone! You'll find Joel and his bespoke monsters at our fair both weekends this year and we're looking forward to seeing his newest creations! Keep up to date with his creations by following Joel on instagram / twitter and read on down below to see how he responded to our Q&A:

Q: What does it mean to be an Edmonton maker/designer/artist?
PM: It makes me so proud to have had the chance to start my professional life in Edmonton. It is such a nurturing city of creatives who want to make a city with an undervalued reputation be known for what it is: a city with a lot of heart, soul and personality.

Q: What are your top 3 influences (artists, things, etc)?
PM: I love the work of Eric Carle, My steady stream of scripted television and pop-culture, and the work of Brian Donnelly / Kaws if I’m to be put on the spot and quickly narrow it down to three.

Q: Favourite Bison items you’ve picked up at a previous fair?
PM: A cast concrete Polypore by Concrete Cat, this plumb bob necklace by Karmen Victoria, annnnnnnd an embroidered hand by Long Gone Arts.

Q: What does it mean to be an Edmonton maker/designer/artist?
FH: I love being a maker in Edmonton! The support I get here is incredible, from other makers and my customers. It’s a beautiful camaraderie that has more to do with uplifting each other, than competition.

Q: What are your top 3 influences (artists, things, etc)?
FH: My daughter, pop culture and of course the Kardashians

Q: Favourite Bison item you’ve picked up at a previous fair?
FH: A couple years ago we got a print from The Upper Dekker for my brother in law for Christmas. It was the perfect gift for the guy who has everything and has a love of all things poop
